AMU Student Union Elections: President From Bihar, VP From Kashmir

The student union elections for Aligarh Muslim University took place on Monday.

The results for the student union elections held at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) were declared late on Monday night.

The elected list of representatives included:

  • President: Mashkoor Ahmad Usmani, student from Bihar pursuing his Bachelors in Dental Surgery
  • Vice-President: Sajad Subhan Rather, PhD student in History from Kashmir
  • Secretary: Mohammad Fahad, agro-business student from Uttar Pradesh

Usmani beat the other candidates contesting for the post of President by a whopping 6,731 votes.

Other contenders for the post of president were:

  • Abu Bakr, research student
  • Ajay Singh, BA LLB student

Ajay Singh is the grandson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Thakur Dalveer Singh, reports Times of India.

Rather won the post of vice-president by a good 3,000 votes.

He emerged victorious out of a group that consisted of:

  • Faisal Nadeem, M Com
  • Rao Faraz Waris, M Tech
  • Vikrant Johari, Master of Finance and Control (MFC)
  • Aijaz Ahmed, PhD

Rather told ANI that one of his foremost concerns, which he plans to address as vice-president, is the matter of mob lynching.

We will create pressure on the government by raising our voice on the issue of mob lynching. My success is not merely mine but it is the success of all the students of AMU. I want to see each and every citizen reach new heights in their lives.

Meanwhile, Fahad won the post of secretary by 358 votes.

His competition was:

  • Adnan Aamir (BA LLB)
  • Imran Khan (MCA)
  • Mohd Fahad (MAEBM)
  • Syed Atif Wasfi (BALLB)
  • Yasir Ali Khan (PhD)

There were only three female candidates contesting for the cabinet positions through the whole course of the election.
