An man in Aligarh was allegedly fined for not wearing a helmet inside a car, reported news agency ANI.
Piyush Varshney claims he has started wearing a helmet when driving his car after he received an e-chalan of Rs 500 on 27 August for the mentioned offence.
“I received an e-challan that I had not worn helmet inside car and due to that fear I am wearing helmet since then. The car is on my father’s name, but he was not in condition to come so I am travelling in the car wearing a helmet," he said.
The police told the news agency that it could be an error caused by the entry of the wrong registration number, which can be corrected.
Local superintendent of police, traffic, told reporters, "We are verifying the challan. Several times mistakes were found due to wrong feeding of data. We can verify the challan and will cancel it if we find it wrong."
