Sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran on Saturday demanded that the President should intervene in Tamil Nadu as an "extraordinary situation" is prevailing in the state.

Dhinakaran, who is involved in a power tussle with Chief Minister E Palaniswami, met with MLAs loyal to him in Puducherry, where they have been staying for the last two weeks.

After the meeting, he said the legislators had not been herded and asserted that they were staying out of the state capital on their own volition.

Dhinakaran told reporters that an "extraordinary situation" was prevailing in Tamil Nadu.

“The President (Ram Nath Kovind) and the TN Governor should intervene in this extraordinary situation. We will wait for two more days and then decide next course of action,” the party’s now estranged deputy general secretary said.

Dhinakaran on Friday had slammed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami for calling General Body meeting on 12 September. He said that only VK Sasikala had the authority to call for the meeting.

TTV Dhinakaran advised the members of the party to not to attend the meeting and warned that strict action will be taken against those who do.

Following the merger of the warring AIADMK factions, earlier in August, the Tamil Nadu CM had called for a general body meeting on 12 September.

In a dramatic announcement, Rajya Sabha MP Vaithilingam told the media and AIADMK members gathered at the party headquarters in Chennai on 21 August that general secretary VK Sasikala would be expelled from the party.

The Madras High Court will hear a PIL seeking direction to Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao asking Palaniswami to prove his majority in the Assembly on Friday.

Meanwhile, the 19 MLAs who have extended their support to TTV Dinakaran were served notices by TN Assembly speaker on Friday to explain their position by 5 September. This was the second time that such notice is being sent to the dissenting MLAs.

The MLAs had met the Governor earlier in August, withdrawing their support to Palaniswami-led AIADMK government.
