If you have a pet, you'll relate to the amount of stress and concern that even the slightest of injury or ailment can bring. But what of stray animals that are injured? While some large-hearted passersby stop to perhaps lend a hand, or maybe even rush these strays to a pet shelter or vet nearby, a majority of these animals are left to fend for themselves.
The number of stray dogs alone in India runs well into over 1.71 crore (as per as the 19th Livestock Census 2012). A large number of these dogs are found in urban areas (25,10,169), as opposed to 1,46,28,180 in rural areas, as per the report.
World For All, a Mumbai-based animal shelter, is hoping to raise Rs 2 lakh to help serve sick and injured stray dogs in the city. The animal shelter, that was reportedly started in 2010, has kickstarted a campaign called #AdoptTheBanner, in a bid to raise funds to support the medical rehabilitation of injured and sick stray dogs.
World For All says the money raised form the #AdoptTheBanner BitGiving campaign will be used to run three mobile ambulances “to administer spot treatments to stray animals and carry serious cases to veterinary clinics”.
The campaign has drawn support from the likes of R Madhavan and comedian Neeti Palta.
