Much to the relief of students protesting at the Hyderabad Central University over Rohith Vemula’s suicide, Cyberabad Commissioner CV Anand has claimed that Susheel Kumar, a student leader whom Rohith had allegedly assaulted, had suffered only minor injuries. Rohith was expelled for assaulting Susheel Kumar.
On 3 October 2015, Anand had filed an affidavit (a copy of which has been accessed by The News Minute) in the Hyderabad High Court, stating that allegations of serious assault by the five Dalit students from the Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) was incorrect.
Based on the recorded statements of Susheel Kumar, his brother Vishnu, mother Vinaya karnakar, security officer Dilip Kumar and also medical reports by Archana Hospital, Anand says that Susheel Kumar had suffered minor injuries.
CV Anand, Cyberabad CommissionerI humbly state and submit that the Medical Officer Dr. Chenna Reddy of Archana Hospital Madeenaguda, Hyderabad who treated the injured issued a Medical Certificate on 12 August stating that the injuries sustained by Susheel Kumar (son of the petitioner) during the incident were ‘simple’ in nature.
Claims and Counter-Claims
The Commissioner says that Susheel Kumar had appendicitis and was operated for the same.
Anand also claims that he had a copy of the apology letter written by ABVP leader Susheel Kumar on 4 August.
This was revealed in the police counters filed before the court in response to the petition filed by Susheel’s mother Vinaya who was seeking protection for her son.
CV AnandThere is no merit whatsoever warranting the interference of this Hon’ble Court under Article. 226 of the Constitution of India. The writ petition is liable to be dismissed.
The case will be heard on 25 January though Susheel Kumar vehemently denies the Commissioner’s claims.
Susheel Kumar, Student leader, ABVPI was injured, look at my medical report. It says blunt abdominal trauma, this happened when they beat me up and pulled me out the security van.
Susheel also gave a copy of his medical report to The News Minute. Susheel was operated for appendicitis after he was admitted to hospital. The report also mentions an injury on his left shoulder.
