1. Abu Salem Seeks Court's Nod for Marriage
Gangster Abu Salem, convicted in the Mumbai serial blasts case, on Monday moved a Mumbai court seeking parole or temporary bail for marriage. Salem has submitted citations of two high courts claiming convicts were given such relief for entering into wedlock.
The mob boss wants to marry a 26-year-old woman who had approached the special TADA court in June 2015 seeking permission for it. Salem has requested the court to grant him the permission to attend the office of the Registrar of Marriage. The trial court Judge, GA Sanap, has asked the CBI to file its response to Salem’s petition.

2. Tansa Lake Overflows, City May See No Water Cuts
The city may not see any water cuts until the next monsoon. Another lake supplying water to Mumbai was filled to capacity, bringing the available water stock up to 70 per cent. Modak Sagar lake was the first one to be filled to capacity, followed by Tansa, which overflowed on Tuesday.
Tansa overflowed at 4:55 pm on Tuesday evening, bringing the total available water stock at 71per cent. The stock was 50.18 per cent at this time last year, and 18.80 per cent in 2015.
Mumbai’s annual water supply comes from seven lakes. A deficit in rainfall in the catchment area of these lakes leads to water shortage in Mumbai.
The city continued to receive heavy rainfall on Tuesday, with Santacruz receiving 39.6 mm and Colaba observatory recording 13 mm rainfall. The IMD has predicted heavy rains in some parts of the city for the next 24 hours.

3. MEA Revokes Zakir Naik's Passport
National Investigation Agency (NIA) inspector general Alok Mittal said Tuesday that the passport of controversial Islamic preacher and Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) president Zakir Naik, has been revoked by the Regional Passport Office, Mumbai.
The NIA, which is probing Naik for his inflammatory speeches that have “inspired and incited a number of Muslim youths in India to commit unlawful activities and terrorist acts,” said Naik’s Indian passport has been revoked under provisions of the Passport Act, 1967. The revocation of his passport comes in the wake of rumors that Naik has been “offered” citizenship by Saudi Arabian authorities.
“The current passport of Naik is being revoked following a request forwarded to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) by the NIA,” Mittal told Mumbai Mirror from Delhi. According to the NIA, Naik ignored three notices issued to him under section 160 of the CrPC to appear and join the investigations against him.

5. Traffic Police to Be Equipped With WiFi Enabled Body Cams
Perhaps taking a cue from their international counterparts, Mumbai traffic police department is set to equip its policemen with a bodymounted Wifi-enabled camera. The camera will now be one of the equipment the traffic police constables will have to carry, apart from the usual walkie-talkie and other paraphernalia. In a bid to bring transparency to the system, the camera, which will be part of their uniforms, will record each conversation that a cop on field has with the motorist and which will then be used as evidence in case of an altercation.
The move comes in the wake of e-challan being introduced where cash transactions get morphed into e-transactions. As a pilot project, the traffic cops will be procuring about 100 such cameras which will be tested on-field across the city. A senior official from traffic department said, “The most important feature of the camera is hat the recorded clips will not be edited which will rule out chances of getting tampered with.”

6. Sena-BJP Drama Moves to Mulund Auditorium
A renovated civic-run auditorium in Mulund has become the latest stage in the continuing tussle between the Shiv Sena and the BJP.
As Sena president Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated the revamped Kalidas Natya Mandir on Tuesday, the BJP skipped the event and alleged that the job was incomplete. It also said that the swimming pool on the premises is shut for over a month and that the Sena was in a hurry to take credit.
Sources said the BJP is picking holes in the management of the Kalidas Sports Complex, which has the auditorium, as it is run by the Sena-controlled Brihanmumbai Lalit Kala Prathistan (BLKP) trust. The BJP’s move is an attempt to wrest control of the trust.

7. A Vanarsena to Stop Open Defecation
Since last week, students and teachers from civic schools in Thane have been organised into an army of crusdaders to stop open defecation in the city. They operate under the name Vanarsena, literally denoting a legion of apes, and mythologically, the companions of the Hindu Lord Hanuman that helped Lord Ram.
The voluntary community groups, meant to reinforce the Swachch Bharat mission and spread sanitation awareness in their respective localities, have been conceived by Thane Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal. Some teachers, though, are unwilling to participate in the “non-teaching unpaid work”.
Under the partnership — comprising 31,000 students and 1,800 teachers from 127 primary schools, 16 secondary schools and 53 balwadis under the civic body — each teacher and student is supposed to sign a self-declaration stating if they have a toilet at home, and in their area. The information will feed a survey.
Thane Deputy Municipal Commissioner Milind Joshi told Mumbai Mirror, “Under the national cleanliness mission, Thane Municipal Corporation ranks 116th. We have scored the lowest under the head of community partnership — 246 out of 600. So the commissioner ordered to work extensively towards it.”

8. 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' Singers Fight Over Credit in Shah Rukh Khan's Film
Last week, Shah Rukh Khan took to micro-blogging site Twitter to thank singer Aaman Trikha for beautifully rendering the track Butterfly, from his upcoming romance-drama, Jab Harry Met Sejal. "You gave life to the song," the badshah wrote, in what appeared to be a humble gesture of appreciation."
Interestingly, the major chunk of the vocals in the song, including the voice of Khan, belongs to Dev Negi, whose name was brought to the fore when musician Chirrantan Bhatt posted on Facebook: "The song Butterfly from Jab Harry Met Sejal has been sung by the very talented Dev Negi. But shockingly, it has been credited to Aaman Trikha. I hope they correct this error and @Aaman Trikha clears the air."
Confirming the news, Negi suggests that the makers may have erred on their part. "The male voice is mine. Maybe, Aaman was credited by mistake. I will talk to the label about it. SRK's voice in the song is mine. Pritam da must be busy. Also, he doesn't have the time to look into these things. But it's unfair.
