Columnist Abhijit Iyer Mitra's judicial custody was extended by 14 more days, whereas Jharpara jail camp court reserved verdict on hearing of his bail plea on Tuesday, 6 November.
The Odisha Police arrested Mitra on Tuesday, 23 October and he was sent to a 14-day judicial custody.
He had appeared in the state Assembly upon being summoned for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Konark Sun Temple last month.
Mitra was seen criticising the temple in a video uploaded on social media on 15 September and was arrested that month by the Odisha Police in Delhi. He later wrote an ‘unconditional apology’ to the Odisha Assembly Speaker.
The video was shot during his visit to the temple with former parliamentarian and his friend, Baijayant Panda.
Mitra was earlier granted bail on a surety of Rs 1 lakh and was ordered to join the investigation in Odisha by 28 September.
