The Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi is in serious trouble after 20 MLAs face disqualification in the national capital for allegedly holding ‘office of profit’.

The Election Commission (EC) purportedly recommended to the President that the MLAs, being parliamentary secretaries, held offices of profit and were liable to be disqualified as members of the Delhi Assembly, highly-placed sources told PTI.

The development has raised a storm with the BJP and the Congress both demanding the dissolution of the Arvind Kejriwal-led government in Delhi. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Friday refused to grant interim relief to the 20 AAP MLAs in the ‘office of profit’ case.

While BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra in a press conference questioned the morality of the party to stay in power, the Congress said that it will carry out a ‘jan aandolan’ to protest against the Delhi government.

Many other BJP and Congress leaders also reacted, demanding Kejriwal’s resignation.

AAP’s Delhi spokesperson also lashed out at the election body. Addressing the media, he said:

Has the Election Commission or the media ever seen any of these MLAs holding any government properties or cars?

Many others also reacted to the development on Twitter, some favouring AAP’s stand and others going against it.
