PM Narendra Modi may be nearly a year old in office, but he continues to rule the popularity charts even after the dust has settled over his emphatic win in the last year’s elections.

According to a survey findings published in a business daily Mint, an overwhelming 74% of respondents have approved of PM Modi’s performance over the past one year in office. The survey was conducted by InstaVaani, an online polling platform and a total of 12,481 people were surveyed, says the report.

Although there has been a slight dip in PM Modi’s popularity from last year during which he enjoyed 82% approval according to the survey carried by the same organisation in last August. However, the report says that the current number is positive and that the PM enjoys the approval of almost three out of every four voters surveyed.

The survey which was carried across metros and non-metros measured the popularity of Prime Minister on three major parameters. These are economic development, cleanliness and sanitation issues, and issues of farmers.

On all these parameters, the urban respondents have given PM Modi positive rating while the non-urban respondents have been less positive.

An overwhelming 82% of the people surveyed in metros and 67% of those in non-metros approve of Modi’s actions. And 82% in metros and 74% in non-metros approve of his government’s management of the economy.

It’s interesting to note that 64% respondents from metros have approved PM Modi’s efforts for handling the problems of Indian farmers. In non-metros, only 52% people think that the government’s response to the farm crisis has been adequate.

The BJP remains the most popular party; in the metros, 82% said they voted for the party in 2014 and 70% said they would still vote for it; in the non-metros, where one would expect a bigger shift, the corresponding numbers are 64% and 62%.

On the sanitation front, PM Modi scores quite high. Nearly 86% of those in metros and 78% of respondents in non-metros have approved of Narendra Modi’s efforts towards making India a garbage-free nation. This seems to be a clear approval of PM Modi pet project, the Swachch Bharat Mission’.

On the development front, PM Modi fares well in both metros and non-metros. Out of 2711 respondents in metros, 82% have given him a positive rating, while as a total of 74% respondents out of 2370 surveyed in non-metros have approved PM Modi’s efforts towards reviving India’s economy.
