The Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, 14 February, that left at least 40 CRPF personnel dead is the deadliest attack on security forces in J&K and the second worst on the CRPF, said an IndiaSpend report. Previously, 75 personnel were killed in an attack on the CRPF in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada in 2010.
According to the report, 339 security personnel have died over the last five years in 1,708 terror attacks in J&K, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, minister of state in the ministry of home affairs informed the Lok Sabha in his reply on 5 February 2019.
This shows a 94 percent increase from 47 in 2014 to 91 in 2018.
Terrorist incidents in J&K climbed to 614 in 2018, as opposed to 222 in 2014, showing an increase of 177 percent. 838 terrorists were killed over the last five years, the number climbed from 110 in 2014 to 257 in 2018, a 134 percent increase, reported IndiaSpend.
According to the data, 2018 saw the most number of terrorist incidents over the last five years, up 80 percent from 2017.
More than 70,000 terror attacks were reported in J&K over the 28 years to 2017; 22,143 terrorists were killed and 13,976 civilians and 5,123 soldiers died, according to an IndiaSpend report dated 19 June 2018.
