A 57-year-old man was arrested by the police for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in South Mumbai and recording the heinous act. According to Indian Express, the man even shared the video of him forcing himself on the minor among his friends.
The incident came to light when the girl’s parents were shown the video, which reached them after a person found the memory card it was stored in, the Indian Express report adds. The accused, Afzal Qureshi, had reportedly fled to Uttarakhand after the incident, where he was traced and caught by the police.
Qureshi, who ran a video-game parlour in South Mumbai, saw the girl playing outside his shop and lured her in, reports Mid-Day. Following this, he forced himself on her, raped her and recorded the entire act on his cell-phone. He later sent it around to a few of his friends, the report adds.
Qureshi started the video camera on his mobile phone and forced himself on the girl. The accused even threatened her with dire consequences if she spoke to anyone about the incident. An officer from JJ Marg police station to Indian Express
According to Indian Express, Qureshi, who is married and has two children, had kept the memory card containing the video in a drawer at his office-desk. It was found by an unknown person who was looking for it, who upon inserting it into his phone, saw the video and managed to track down the girl’s parents and show it to them.
Qureshi, who meanwhile had fled to Uttarakhand and had been living in a mosque since, was found after investigators tracked down his name on a Delhi train list and reached out to his relatives for information to his whereabouts, says Indian Express.
We checked if he got off in Delhi or somewhere in the middle. Then we contacted Qureshi’s relatives and asked them to inform us about him.The officer added, as reported by The Indian Express
Qureshi had called one of the relatives in question from Kotdwar in Uttarakhand, who went on to inform the police, the Indian Express report adds. The police found him and arrested him, booking him under several Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
