A four-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped on Saturday, 30 June, by a group of four minor boys in Kanpur's Maharajpur area. The girl is now out of danger and is undergoing treatment at a government hospital, The Times of India reported.
On Monday, 2 July, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Kanpur sent the four boys to a correctional home, The Indian Express reported.
The police said that the minors will be produced before the JJB after attending a few counselling sessions.
The police had, on Sunday, 1 July, registered an FIR and detained the boys. The police said the girl's father told them that his daughter was playing outside the house on the said day when the neighbourhood boys lured her to a nearby unfrequented area and raped her.
“A man came to us with a complaint against four boys of his neighbourhood. He alleged that on Saturday evening they lured his daughter, who was playing outside her home, to a nearby abandoned place and sexually assaulted her,” Rakesh Kumar Maurya, Maharajpur police station officer (SO), was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
“One of the accused is 12 years old and the others are six years old. They had reportedly confessed about their involvement in the shocking incident,” TOI quoted Rakesh Maurya as saying.
The police have registered a case for gangrape, and also charged the boys under Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
“The girl’s medical examination, however, did not confirm sexual assault,” SO Maurya said.
Inspector General (IG), Kanpur (Range), Alok Singh, told The Indian Express that the police interacted with the kids and went further in the case only after taking their statements into consideration.
"It technically fell under the category of rape. However, this is a very sensitive matter and that is why we were very cautious and proceeded to keep in mind their mental health," he said.
15-Year-Old Raped in Madhya Pradesh
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three friends of her elder brother, including two minors, at her house in the Bada Patthar area in Jabalpur, police said on Tuesday, 3 July.
In the afternoon of 28 June, the girl was alone in her home when the three visited her, City Superintendent of Police (Ranjhi area) Akhil Verma said, reported PTI.
Since they were her elder brother’s friends, the girl did not suspect anything and allowed them inside her house, he said.
After entering the house, the trio bolted the door from inside and allegedly raped the girl. They also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to her family members, the police officer said.
The girl kept mum for a couple of days but finally told her family members about the ordeal on Monday.
Thereafter, the family members filed a complaint based on which an FIR was registered last evening against the accused, one of whom is 18-year-old, Verma said.
The adult accused was placed under arrest last evening, while the two others, who are aged 17 years, were detained, he said.
They were booked under relevant sections of the IPC and also the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), Verma said, adding further investigations are underway.
