250 soldiers of the Western Command of the Army have received a two-week Yoga Teacher’s Training Course, organised by Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar. Officials have said that these soldiers will be expected to impart their training to others in the command. The training by specialists under Ramdev’s guidance, which began on 10 January and ended on Tuesday, aimed to impart to the jawans a ‘comprehensive knowledge of yoga and meditation.’

A spokesperson from the Command confirmed to The Times of India that another 750 would receive training and, and over the next six months, 1,000 soldiers would have benefited from it. Yoga has been introduced to address stress and lifestyle-related disorders in the army.

Baba Ramdev himself took classes for the soldiers and taught them 12 yoga asanas as well as special asanas for a number of ailments. He also guided them about the correct diet and fitness regime to follow. Thereafter, Acharya Balkrishnan took sessions on meditation.
