A 100-year-old woman has died after being raped by a drunk youth in an Uttar Pradesh village early on Monday, police said.
The shocking incident was reported from Jaani village in Meerut district where the victim lived with her brother. The rapist, identified as Ankit Punia, 35, was reportedly in an inebriated state when he attacked the helpless woman. He had barged into her house, in a village on the outskirts of Meerut.
According to Times of India, the victim’s family stated that she was already so weak and unwell, that when the assault was taking place, she could barely muster up any sound to raise the alarm. Luckily, they heard her feeble cries and rushed to the other room, where they found Punia forcing himself on her.
Punia was trying to escape at this point, but her brother and neighbours overpowered him and handed him over to police.
