The Indian government will release 11 Pakistani prisoners via the Wagah border on Monday, reported ANI. The move comes amid tensions between India and Pakistan due to the ongoing Kulbhushan Jadhav case.
The goodwill gesture on India’s part, also comes just days after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Asthana.
The Pakistani prisoners have reportedly served their sentence and the Pakistani officials have sought their return to the country.
India had earlier this year, moved International Court of Justice after a Pakistani military court gave death sentence to former Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav for alleged spying. The ICJ ruled in favor of India and stayed the military court’s execution order, further escalating tensions between the two countries.
