  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) Secretary Jaspal S Sandhu has asked universities to award degrees to students within 180 days of them becoming eligible for the degree or face “punitive action”.

  • The degree shall be dated within 180 days from the day results are declared as it is sufficient time to perform the task. Withholding the degree of a student who has successfully completed his tenure at the institute poses obstacles for them for further opportunities.

  • Under the punitive actions notified in Regulation 9 of UGC, the Commission can take action against universities including withholding grants.
