- The US on Thursday announced that Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), is a “foreign terrorist organisation” (FTO). It also included its chief Asim Umar on its list of global terrorists.
- The consequences of this decision includes freezing all their property and interests in the US and a prohibition against knowingly providing, or attempting or conspiring to provide, material support to the organization.
- AQIS, a regional branch of the global terror network, had previously claimed responsibility for the 6 September 2014 attack on a naval dockyard in Karachi and for the murders of activists in Bangladesh.
