Vice President Hamid Ansari was on Thursday welcomed at a university in Morocco with a map that showed undivided India.
Coming as a major embarrassment to the Mohammad V University, the map which was put on display to welcome Ansari showed Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan as part of India’s territory.
Ansari was there to give a lecture on ‘Accommodating Diversity in a Globalising World: The Indian Experience’. The error was noticed by a member of the Indian delegation accompanying Ansari before his arrival, following which, the map was immediately removed.
The goof-up has been attributed to a bunch of students who were managing the display system.
Ansari’s trip in Morocco is the first high-level visit to the African country after Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee went there in 1999.
At the invitation of Prime Minister Habib Essid, he will now head for a two-day visit to Tunisia.
