ULFA Militants Shoot Father & Son Dead in Assam’s Tinsukia Village

AASU general secretary has held the BJP-led state government responsible for failing to protect people.

A group of suspected ULFA militants gunned down a father and his son in a village under Bordumsa police station in Assam’s Tinsukia district at 6:45 pm on Monday. The incident took place outside their home. Anteswar Mahanta died on the spot and his son Karun died on his way to the hospital, reported The Indian Express.

It is an act of the Paresh Barua faction of ULFA. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the culprits.

Anteswar Mahanta was the president of the village defence party of Simaluguri, while his son Karun was a former president of the local unit of All-Assam Students’ Union (AASU).

According to The Indian Express report, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has condemned the incident and has asked Eastern Assam DIG RP Meena to go to Tinsukia to look into the matter.
