Two persons, including the father of murdered gangster Kishore Pandey were shot dead on Monday. A shooter was caught in Patratu by the local police in Ramgarh district.
As many as five miscreants on two motorcycles opened fire on 65-year-old Kameshwar Pandey, who was the brother of slain gangster Bhola Pandey and father of gangster Kishore Pandey, who was also killed in an earlier encounter. DIG Upendra Kumar said that one of the shooters has been arrested with the help of local residents.
Another shooter, who was chased by the local people, was also killed, Kumar said.
Prima facie, it seems to be a part of a gang war, but this can only be confirmed after the nabbed shooter is interrogated.
The incident is suspected to be the fall out of long-standing rivalry between slain gangster Sushil Srivastava and Bhola Pandey of Patratu.
Kishore Pandey, nephew of Bhola Pandey, and his bodyguard were killed in a shootout in Kadma market in Jamshedpur in October last year. Srivastava and two of his henchmen were killed in a shootout inside the premises of Hazaribagh court in June.
The rival gangs fought to maintain supremacy in the extortion business in the district.
