- After some western countries lifted the sanctions against Iran earlier this year, India has followed suit and lifted a ban on trade of specified items with Iran, the government said in a notification on Wednesday.
- The notification said that direct or indirect export to Iran or import from Iran is now permitted for these items subject to UN Security Council Resolution, according to a report published by Reuters.
- This move comes after India’s improving ties with Iran. New Delhi last month had signed a pact with Tehran to build the strategically important Chabahar port in Iran with an initial commitment of $500 million for the project.
