Ashok Gajapathi Raju and YS Chowdary, two TDP ministers in the BJP-led NDA government, on Thursday, 8 March, submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to a PTI report, Raju later told reporters that his party will continue to part of the ruling alliance.

Their resignations come a day after TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that the party's ministers will quit the Central government in protest against its refusal to grant special category status to the state.

Chowdary said the issue of special category status was very emotive for the state but the Centre did not address it and added that even the special package was not adequate.

Addressing the media after submitting his resignation, TDP's YS Chowdary said that they “will continue to be a part of the NDA, but not take up any ministerial positions,” reported ANI.

“I don't think there is anything wrong in that,” he added.

I don’t think it’s fair on our part to expect PM to deal with these issues. It’s for the concerned ministries to take up, already considerable amount of time has lapsed.

When asked about the possibility of the BJP allying with the YSR Congress Party, Chowdary said, "That is between those two parties, we have nothing to say on that, you can ask them."
