Vigilance department sleuths have searched the residence of suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur. The search was carried out in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him.
The vigilance team is conducting raid at my residence as Director Vigilance Bhanu Pratap Singh is working as a SP man. I am being harassed as I have lodged FIR against (Samajwadi Party supremo) Mulayam Singh Yadav.
— Amitabh Thakur, Suspended IPS Officer
Thakur has last week given a complaint at Vibhuti Khand police station, seeking the registration of an FIR against the Vigilance Director and others for alleged misrepresentation of facts in their inquiry report.
The Vigilance Department had lodged an FIR against Thakur last month charging him with possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
He was suspended in July after he lodged a police complaint against Mulayam Singh Yadav, accusing him of threatening him over phone.
Thakur alleged that the Vigilance Department had prepared a list of properties owned by his parents, brother, wife and an organisation he was earlier attached to and showed these as his assets.
Thakur maintained that it is a rule in any open inquiry for the Vigilance Department to give owners and suspected beneficiaries a chance to explain, before declaring any property benami. He claimed this was not done in order to implicate him hastily.
Thakur told reporters that the sleuths had refused to show their identity cards when he asked for the same and behaved like party workers.
