Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai on Monday said the government will take strict action against auto drivers found “harassing” passengers.

According to Rai, a special drive has been launched by the department and 44 enforcement teams have been deployed in three shifts in different parts of the national capital.

Stressing on the importance of law enforcement, he further said that the government is ready to take every possible step for the welfare of auto drivers but people should not be harassed.

During a week-long drive, enforcement teams will check near railway stations, ISBTs, metro stations and hospitals in their respective districts.

A transport department official said teams on Monday impounded 202 autos under Section 207 of Motor Vehicle Act.

Auto drivers have also been instructed to paste a 15X6 board made of polyvinyl material displaying the location of their residence while returning home at the end of the day.

The department has also made it compulsory for all drivers to wear uniform and PSV Badge.

In June, 755 complaints were received against auto drivers, most of which were about refusal to go to a particular destination.
