The Delhi police will produce Somnath Bharti before the Dwarka court on Tuesday.
The Aam Aadmi Party leader is wanted on a domestic abuse charge, filed by his wife, Lipika Mitra. He surrendered to the police in Dwarka late on Monday. The apex court had denied him anticipatory bail and had asked him to surrender by Monday evening.
With a copy of the Constitution in his hand, the former Delhi law minister said he was surrendering to the police on his own as directed by the Supreme Court. Bharti also rubbished reports that he was escaping the law, saying that he was “availing his legal remedies.”
The apex court had said that as a responsible citizen, it was his duty to surrender to the police rather than abscond after being denied anticipatory bail by two courts; the trial court and Delhi High Court.
