A Delhi court has granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti in the domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra.
Bharti has been granted bail on payment of a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.
Bharti had applied for bail on Tuesday. After hearing the arguments, Anil Kumar, the Additional Sessions Judge, had reserved the order for Wednesday.
I am an MLA and have to look after the work of my constituency. I have deep root in the society and if granted bail, I will not flee from the justice...Everyone recognises me, where will I escape?
— Somnath Bharti, AAP MLA on Tuesday
While Bharti claimed that the case is “BJP sponsored”, the Delhi police were against his release as he could influence the probe.
