Six Assam Rifles Soldiers Killed By Militants in Manipur

Six members of the 21 Assam Rifles were killed in a militant attack in Chandel district of Manipur near the Indo-Myanmar border at around 1 pm on Sunday.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh took stock of the situation and spoke to the Director General of Assam.

The deceased were identified as follows:

  • Junior Commanding Officer (JCO) Subedar Baldeo Sharma
  • Pawan Kumar
  • Mahesh Gurung
  • Bhupender Kumar
  • Akhilesh Kumar Pandey
  • Havaldar Surajit Barla

The attack took place on the heels of the completion of a year since a similar attack in the same district killed 18 Army personnel.

The attack was jointly planned by three of the seven insurgent groups in Imphal – PLA, UNLF and PREPAK – according to The Indian Express.
