A suspected spy, who was working as a labourer at Mamoon Cantonment in Pathankot, has been arrested by Punjab police.
The suspect has been identified as one Irshad Ahmed, who is a resident of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, a senior police official said.
A smart phone has also been recovered from his possession containing pictures of vital installations and sensitive equipment in the cantonment area, police said.
He has been booked under the Official Secrets Act and a case has been registered at Shahpur Kandi in Pathankot, the official said.
According to the police official, Irshad was being handled by a person called Sajjad, who was earlier stated to have been arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police.
Irshad was entrusted with the task of collecting secret information which he then used to send to his handler Sajjad, who was passing on the information to his Pakistani handlers, who could be the ISI.Police Official
The suspect is being questioned by central and state security agencies, the official said, adding that investigation is underway.
The arrest comes within a month of the terror attack at the Pathankot air base, in which seven security personnel and six militants were killed.
