Son of Sindh High Court’s Chief Justice Abducted in Pakistan

Ovais, himself an advocate, was abducted by armed men from outside a shopping mart in Clifton area in Karachi.

Ovais Sajjad Shah, son of the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court and an advocate, was abducted by unidentified armed men in Karachi on Monday.

He was kidnapped from outside a shopping mart in Clifton area, where he had gone after leaving the Sindh High Court. Police have detained five persons in connection with the case, however, no case of abduction has been registered so far.

While addressing the media, Munir Ahmed Sheikh, DIG Police District South said that Ovais went missing after he left the High Court in the afternoon.

We are looking at the CCTV cameras in the Clifton area to ascertain what happened. But he apparently stopped over at the shopping mart.

“His mobile phone is also switched off since late afternoon. We have detained five persons from the parking area for questioning,” a senior police official added.

Ovais’s kidnapping comes a few weeks after the sons of two high profile politicians were returned from spending years in captivity with militant outfits. He was involved in pleading 90 cases, including one where he was hired by 700 sacked employees of the Karachi Port Trust.

According to reports, Karachi continues to remain a hotbed for criminals, gangsters and militants, with street crime being one of the biggest issues that the city deals with.
