A medium intensity earthquake hit the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan on Saturday. Ripples of the quake were felt across north India, including in Jammu and Kashmir and the national capital region.
The earthquake, measuring 5.8 on the richter scale, was 170 km deep, according to the National Seismological division of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The earthquake in northern Afghanistan was felt in Kabul and across the border in Pakistan, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The US Geological Survey says the epicenter of Saturday’s quake was 35 kilometers southeast of Jarm, Afghanistan.
A 7.5-magnitude quake in the same region in October caused extensive damage in northwestern Pakistan and killed around 400 people.
