A Delhi government file pertaining to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) related to the 1984 sikh riots has gone missing.

Reports of the ‘missing file’ come at a critical juncture for the Aam Aadmi Party, with its plans to contest the Punjab assembly elections in 2017. The AAP government has recently given an additional Rs 5 lakhs compensation to families of the riot victims.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday, over the issue. She accused him of playing ‘petty politics’ over an issue as serious as “genocide”.

Kejriwal told the people that he created an SIT and will bring justice to the people. He does not even know where the SIT file is. He lied to the people on an incident which is like a genocide. He can stoop down to any level for votes.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also accused Kejriwal of playing politics on the issue.

Mr Arvind Kejriwal has no time for politics and any kind of work in Delhi because he is engaged in international politics. That’s why he missed the 1984 riots file.

Sambit Patra, BJP Spokesperson

He added, “Mr Arvind Kejriwal, when he was contesting the Delhi elections, played politics on the 1984 Sikh riots. In fact, he said he wanted to set-up a SIT at the earliest, and today what we learnt, it is absolutely disgusting and shocking. It has been missing for 10 months now and no one cared”.
