Amid protests against the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in Kashmir, the outfit on Tuesday named Mehmood Ghaznavi as its new chief.

The announcement was made by Syed Salahuddin, the group’s supreme commander based in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), while addressing the command council meet on Tuesday, reported The Times of India.

“We won’t allow the sacrifice of Burhan Wani go to waste, and his mission will be taken to its logical conclusion,” Salahuddin’s said.

Kashmir has been reeling under clashes, violence and protests since Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces on 8 July.
