Minister of state for urban housing, health, family welfare and transport Shankar Chaudhary misspelt the word ‘elephant’ as ‘elephent’ while teaching a group of government school kids in Deesa, Gujarat on Thursday.

His claim however, has been under the scanner after a petition was filed against him claiming that his degree is fake. The petition was disposed of by the Gujarat High Court.

Immediately as reports of his blunder broke the internet, Chaudhary, in an attempt to salvage his mistakes said that he deliberately spelt the word wrong to test students’ knowledge in the language.

He further added that he spelt ‘Deesa’ as ‘Disa’ to check whether students would notice the mistake.

Chaudhary was in the government school as part of the state government’s Shala Praveshotsav programme.

Earlier, Chaudhary was heavily criticised after he was allegedly found surfing pornographic websites in the Assembly.

He is also in the middle of several criminal cases, including the murder of two boys during the 2002 communal riots and the misuse of earthquake rehabilitation fund in Radhanpur.
