Mussoorie MLA Joshi has been booked for beating the police horse with a stick during the party’s protest on 14 March.
The legislator, however insisted that he had not inflicted injury on the horse, and that it had gone out of control during the protests and one of its hind legs got stuck in a hole dug up to put up the barricades, injuring it.
The beast underwent a surgical procedure on Tuesday to fix one of its hind legs.
Although BJP has denied the charges. Video footage from around 20 TV channels as well as eyewitness accounts are being analysed to put together the sequence of events leading to the animal getting injured.
According to The Times of India sources in Uttarakhand police, Shaktiman’s rider has told his seniors that Joshi had indeed attacked the horse, though the actual injury to the leg may have been caused when the horse hit a rod, lost its balance and fell. As per the rider’s account, after Joshi hit the horse and the mob followed suit, it started stepping back. When some members of the mob caught its reins, it hit a rod lying there and fell.
