Lawyers at the Patiala House Court attacked journalists and JNU supporters, seriously injuring a few on Monday afternoon. The inaction of police in the incident despite being present in 100s, according to one of the reporters who was attacked, is questionable.

According to one of the journalists, the incident was triggered by a miscreant who came to the court with a group of people; some of them in black coats. The unidentified person screamed slogans against JNU students and faculty members before the local lawyers joined him in attacking the JNU supporters and the reporters who were present.

However, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi has called it a minor incident and defended the police inaction in the incident while speaking to NDTV.

The videos from the site show lawyers thrashing journalists even as few reports blame JNU protesters for the attack.

Amit Pandey of IBN7, Alok Singh of The Indian Express, Azaan from DNA, and Amiya Kushwaha from IANS were beaten outside the sessions court in Delhi.

BJP president Amit Shah put out a blog post blaming the students for the slogans raised during an event held in support of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on his death anniversary.

What happened in JNU cannot be termed pro-nationalist. Anti-national slogans raised in the university cannot be acceptable to Indians...Has Rahul Gandhi lent his voice to separatists in the country? Does he want another partition of the country? Would it have been right for the government not to have acted against anti-national elements? Are you supporting anti-nationalism?
