Congress General Secretary Gurudas Kamat who cited ‘personal’ reasons for resigning from the party earlier this month, has decided to make a u-turn by announcing that he will return to politics.

Gurudas Kamat withdrew his resignation from the Congress, after initially informing the party’s top leadership last month that his resignation was purely on “personal grounds” and that he isn’t quitting social work.

But it is believed that Kamat quit as he was unhappy over issues with Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam and party in-charge Mohan Prakash.

This would come as welcome news for the party, as it was hopeful of him changing his mind.

Kamat, on Thursday, revealed that during past fortnight he was approached by a number of senior party leaders who tried to convince him to rethink his decision.

Kamat also credited the decision of returning to politics to a meeting he had with party President Sonia Gandhi, who helped him realise that Congress is the best platform for him to serve the people.
