New Delhi, Dec 3 (IANS) The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will install a statue of Swami Vivekananda in its campus for his "singular" contribution to "India's intellectual and philosophical heritage," the university announced on Monday.
The decision to install the statue was taken at the Executive Council's 268th meeting held on June 30 last year.
"Jawaharlal Nehru University will be celebrating the singular contribution of Swami Vivekananda to India's intellectual and philosophical heritage by installing a statue of this great son of India," the varsity Registrar Pramod Kumar said in his note.
The statue has been funded by one of university's former student "who is voluntarily managing all the expenses involved in making and installation of the status" it read.
University Finance Officer Heeraman Tiwari told IANS that the university is not spending any money on the statue and that it will installed near the administrative block.
