The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari met Prime Minister Narendra Modi “over detention of Muslim youths on charges of having relations with ISIS,” according to the office of the Shahi Imam.

Bukhari has reportedly kept a demand in front of Modi that “special care be taken to ensure that lives of innocent Muslim youths are not ruined.” The meeting between Bukhari and Modi comes in the wake of several arrests of Muslim youths with possible ISIS links.

The Imam’s office also said that the Imam “demanded the PM that there should be transparency in carrying out such detentions.”

In December last year, three students were detained at the Nagpur airport. They were on their way to Syria and might have joined ISIS had the Telangana Police and Maharashtra ATS not acted on time.
