- HRD Minister Smriti Irani will be given ‘Z’ category security with armed commandos guarding her, in view of increased perception of threats to her life. So far, Irani had ‘Y’ category security.
- The decision to upgrade Irani’s security cover was taken by the Home Ministry after intelligence inputs suggested that Irani is facing high level of threat to her life, following the series of agitations against the minister across multiple universities in the country.
- Under ‘Z’ category security, Irani will be guarded by about 18 armed commandos at any given time and security will be provided at her residence. There will be a pilot and an escort vehicle with armed guards providing security cover when she travels.
