Restrictions were imposed in parts of Srinagar on Friday ahead of the proposed “solidarity march” by separatist groups. Officials have confirmed that restrictions have been imposed in six areas of Srinagar.
The areas come under police stations of Rainawari, Nowhatta, Khanyar, MR Gunj and Safakadal in the downtown locality and in Maisuma near Lal Chowk. They said the decision to impose restrictions was taken in view of the apprehensions of law and order problems.
Moderate Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq had called for a “solidarity march” for paying tributes to Muslims killed on November 6, 1947 in the Jammu region.
Many separatist leaders have either been detained or placed under house arrest in view of the proposed march that is will coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium at Sonawar on Saturday.
Kashmir University and the Board of School Education have postponed all examinations scheduled for Friday. However, Class VIII exams will be held as per schedule, officials said.
