The Bombay High Court on Monday dismissed a PIL seeking quashing of a 2015 Maharashtra government resolution making it mandatory for children to submit Aadhaar card while securing school admission.
As per the government resolution(GR), Aadhaar card number of the child should be linked with the school registration number.
The PIL filed by an activist, however, argued that the GR was contrary to order passed by the Supreme Court last year saying submission of Aadhaar card should not be made compulsory by a state government.
The petition contended that not every child in the state would be in a position to procure an Aadhaar card. The high court observed that the object of the GR is to ensure that every child in the state gets enrolled for education.
