- The government on Wednesday rejected the demand to rename Akbar Road to Maharana Pratap Road.
- Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said “naming and renaming of streets is not on the agenda”, after Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh wrote to the Urban Development Minister asking for the change.
- Singh’s demand came amid reports that the Haryana government too had sought the renaming of Akbar road after the Mewar ruler.
- The Communist Party of India on Wednesday alleged that VK Singh’s demand reflected the NDA government’s bid to “impose” Hindutva agenda on the people, and insisted the name of the street should not be changed.
