Pakistan released 163 fishermen as a goodwill gesture on August 3.

The fishermen were kept in Landhi and Malir jails in Pakistan and were received by a team of seven officials at the Wagah Border.

The release came in the wake of a recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Russian city of Ufa.

Gujarat fisheries department superintendent KR Patani said today that the seven-member Gujarat team would include fisheries department officials as well as police personnel, who would escort the fishermen from Amritsar in Punjab to Veraval in Gujarat, where they will be reunited with their family members.

We will reach Amritsar on Tuesday afternoon and until then, the custody of these fishermen will be with the Punjab government.

The released Indian fishermen arrived in Lahore via the Allama Iqbal Express on Monday evening.

There are incidentally 355 Indian fishermen in Pakistan and 27 Pakistani fishermen in India.
