Further treatment on Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for his medical condition has begun and he is responding well to the same, reported ANI. His Personal Secretary Rupesh Kamat said that his next health review will be done in two weeks.

Parrikar left for the United States for treatment early on 7 March, a top BJP leader said. He was advised to "specialised expert treatment" in the US for his "medical condition", by experts at Lilavati hospital in Mumbai.

Parrikar, 62, was flown to Mumbai and admitted at Lilavati Hospital for a check-up on 5 March.

“The chief minister will fly to the USA by an early morning flight at 1.30 am for further treatment,” state BJP general secretary Sadanand Tanawade told reporters. A state government official too confirmed the development.

In a letter, Parrikar informed state Governor Mridula Sinha about his travel plans to the US for medical treatment, and also spoke about the interim arrangement of a Cabinet advisory committee to guide the state administration, reports PTI.

I have been also advised by the expert team of doctors in Goa as well as in Mumbai and subsequent consultation with doctors abroad to travel overseas for a specialised treatment of my medical condition.

A three-member Cabinet Advisory Committee of Sudin Dhavalikar (MGP), Francis D'Souza (BJP) and Vijai Sardesai (Goa Forward Party) was also formed to advise the administration in his absence.

In his letter, Parrikar said that he would chair the meeting of the council of ministers, whenever it was held, through video conferencing, the PTI report adds.

“If that is not possible for any reason, or I may decide at later point of time, the minister nominated by me shall preside the meeting and I will separately instruct the chief secretary in such exigency,” he added in his letter.

Furthermore, he instructed that the committee was expected to meet at least once a week, at such point of time and place, and had the authority decide unanimously amongst themselves on some specific financial year ending issues.

However, he added: "The committee shall consult the finance department before taking any financial decisions," PTI reports.

Parrikar was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on 15 February and discharged on 22 February . On the same day he returned to Goa and presented the Budget in the assembly, but the session was truncated to only four days owing to his illness.

He was later admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital after he suffered from dehydration. Before leaving for Mumbai on Monday, Parrikar held a series of meetings, including one with senior state ministers.
