Justice Deepak Mishra, who had headed the three-judge Supreme Court bench that rejected Yakub Memon’s mercy plea, has received a threatening letter.
The letter, which was received by his security guard – according to a report on Zee New – has not been sourced to anyone yet. Justice Misra’s residence, meanwhile, has been put under high security.
The note allegedly reads: “irrespective of the protection you may avail, we will eliminate you” – according to a report on NDTV.
Yakub Memon, a chartered accountant by profession, had filed two mercy petitions after his curative petition was rejected by the Supreme Court.
A three judge bench comprising Justice Dipak Misra, Justice Prafulla Chandra and Justice Amitava Roy had rejected his final mercy plea in an unprecedented midnight hearing.
Yakub Memon, brother of known terrorist Tiger Memon, was the sole death row convict in the case of terror attacks in Mumbai in 1993.
Yakub Memon was hanged at 7:30 am on July 30, 2015, his 53rd birthday after spending two decades in prison.
