The Uttar Pradesh government has made it clear that it was “ready for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Dadri lynching matter if the court wished it”, reports The Times of India.
This is a noteworthy u-turn by the state government which till now maintained there was no need for a CBI probe. The Times of India reports,
- The government argued in the Allahabad High Court that the question of whether the meat was mutton or beef should be de-linked from the crime itself since a man was murdered.
- Highly placed sources within the government said it may have changed its stance as the forensic report may indicate that the meat sample was actually beef, as repeatedly claimed by local BJP members.
The report submitted by the UP government also has a sealed envelope which contains the forensic report on the nature of meat found in Akhlaq’s house.
The earlier report which said that the meat was mutton came from Rajkiya Pashu Chikitsalaya in Dadri. The sealed report submitted now is from the forensic laboratory from Mathura Veterinary College.
