- Ignoring police orders, a group of BJP and Shiv Sena politicians led a village panchayat demanding action against the family of Mohammed Akhlaq, who was lynched to death in September over accusations that his family was eating beef in their home, reports NDTV.
- Prohibitory orders were imposed on 6 June in Bisada village of Uttar Pradesh, after residents threatened to hold a Mahapanchayat, seeking “justice” for those accused of killing Mohammad Akhlaq.
- District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar NP Singh had imposed Section 144. The relatives of the accused in the Dadri killing reportedly met the Gautam Budh Nagar SSP to demand that an FIR be registered against Mohammad Akhlaq’s family for alleged cow slaughter.
- The police said that the meat was sent for testing only to establish a motive for Akhlaq’s killing. Akhlaq’s family, which has always denied allegations that the meat was beef, has rejected the Mathura lab report’s conclusion.
- BJP leader Vinay Katiyar supported the FIR against Akhlaq’s family saying that those who have been locked up should be released. He also called for the family’s compensation to be withdrawn.
