The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, 27 January, announced the list of selected candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tripura and Meghalaya.
In the case of Congress, out of the total 113 candidates announced so far, 56 have been selected as candidates in the Tripura elections, while another 57 candidates were selected in the Meghalaya elections.
The BJP announced 44 candidates for the upcoming Tripura Assembly elections. The BJP’s nominees include its state chief Biplab Kumar Deb, vice president Subal Bhowmik, and general secretary Pratima Bhowmik.

The BJP, on Thursday, also announced an alliance with tribal-run Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) for the upcoming Assembly elections. Of 60 seats, they will contest elections in 51 seats, while the IPFT will contest nine seats, with the goal of ousting the Left Front government, in power in the state since 1993.
The Congress has not yet announced the list of candidates for the Nagaland Assembly elections. Tripura goes to poll on 18 February, and counting of votes will be carried out on 3 March.
