Amid violence in West Bengal that followed Ram Navami processions, a bust of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad has been pulled down, say media reports.
Azad was India's first Union education minister and played a significant role in India’s struggle for independence.
The bust was razed down in Kakinara in West Bengal. A video of the incident is doing the rounds on social media, and people have taken to Twitter to condemn Hindutva activists in West Bengal for this act.
Communal clashes in West Bengal have left at least three people dead since 24 March, and more than 50 injured, reported The Statesman.
An FIR has also been lodged against BJP State President Dilip Ghosh under non-bailable sections for participating in a Ram Navmi rally with a sword and a mace, reported India Today.
Earlier in March, the country saw two statues of Lenin being pulled down following BJP's win in Tripura.
