The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained the Dewas Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh by a margin of 30,778 votes but lost the Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha seat to the Congress by a margin of 88,000 votes.

Congress’ Kantilal Bhuria smashed BJP’s Nirmala Bhuria’s chances whereas BJP’s Gayatri Raje Puar defeated Congress’ Jai Prakash Shastri in Dewas.

In Ratlam-Jhabua, the Congress fielded former Union minister Kantilal Bhuria while the BJP gave the ticket to Petlawad MLA Nirmala Bhuria, daughter of Dileep Singh Bhuria, whose death necessitated the by-election.

The BJP also lost Warangal in Telangana to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
